: City Police today booked a case against the Resident Editor of a leading English newspaper in connection with a news published on a meeting between state DGP V Dinesh Reddy and a local spiritual leader.
"Following a complaint by the president of AP Gazetted Police Officers Union regarding the news published in the newspaper (dated Sept 13) we have booked a case against the Resident Editor," Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) V Satyanarayana said.
The Panjagutta Police registered the case under sections 469 (Forgery for purpose of harming reputation) and 505 (1) (Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report) of IPC, he said, adding, "We are investigating the matter.
"The complainant accused the Resident Editor of the newspaper of defaming and degrading the reputation of the AP Police chief (Reddy) by publishing negative news and for carrying the 'morphed' photograph (wherein Reddy was seen along with the Baba)," the DCP said.
Earlier, the police arrested two journalists of a Telugu news channel who were subsequently remanded in judicial custody by a local magistrate on September 15 in connection with a case registered against them for telecasting a news story highlighting Dinesh Reddy's meeting with the spiritual leader here.
The two journalists were arrested Saturday by Hussaini Alam police on a complaint lodged by family members of the spiritual leader alleging that the channel defamed him by "calling him a land grabber and doing black-magic".
Cases were booked against the news channel on September 13 following allegations that it morphed the visuals which were aired with a news report on a meeting between Dinesh Reddy and the spiritual leader.
