Chief minister N Biren Singh today asked police officers to be careful as any error on their part often led to a negative image of the government.
He was speaking at the 125th Raising Day celebrations of Manipur Police on 1st Manipur Rifles Ground.
"Police are the mirror of the government. Any error by the police department often leads to a negative image of the government," Singh said.
The CM also expressed regret that a few individuals have been targeting the state police on social media.
"A few individuals have been trying to tarnish the image of the state police on social media. I urge everybody to exercise restraint while expressing their views," he said, adding that various grievance cells have been set up in the state to address problems faced by common people.
Congratulating the state police and the central forces for their constant efforts to maintain law and order, the CM also promised to take initiatives to ensure better interaction between security personnel and general public.
Director General of Police (DGP) LM Khaute also lauded the state police officers and paramilitary forces on this occasion for their efforts to ensure peace in the insurgency-hit border state.
"The police department has been successful in convincing 3000 militants to lay down their arms and join the mainstream," said Khaute, adding that law and order has improved in the state in the past few months.
Remembering security personnel, who lost lives in their line of work, he said police have been playing a crucial role in handling hill hostilities and insurgency.
Several officers were awarded for their performances at the programme that was attended by over 1000 police personnel.
