Police officer caught while taking bribe to hush up rape case

A police sub-inspector at the Kotwali station here was today caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a perosn for 'settling' a complaint of rape against him.
Ramgopal Uike, the police officer, had demanded Rs 70,000 from a resident of Peepliya village for 'settling' a case of rape against him, said deputy superintendent of Lokayukta police Rajkumar Sharma.
The latter paid Rs 35,000 as first instalment to Uike, and then tipped off the Lokayukta police about it, following which a trap was laid and Uike was caught red-handed.
