A special police team Monday raided a private club here and arrested 40 people for allegedly indulging in gambling.
A police release said Rs 2.44 lakh in cash and nearly 100 packs of playing cards were seized.
Special teams have been formed to crackdown on gambling in the city.
The 62-year-old club manager Sivaprasad and Selvam, an employee, are among those arrested, the release said.
A team arrested nine people on Sunday for allegedly indulging in gambling from a room situated on the first floor of a hotel here.
The police said in a major crackdown, 67 people were arrested in March for their alleged involvement in the banned activity.
According to provisions of the Tamil Nadu City Police Act, gambling is illegal.
