A 50-year-old police personnel died after he was hit by a speeding motor bike during a vehicle check at Nagampadam junction here early today, police said.
The accused biker has been taken into custody, they said.
Senior civil police officer Ajesh attached to Kottayam East police station was knocked down by the bike near Nagampadam police aid post at 1.45 AM during the vehicle check, they added.
Ajesh, a native of Pambady near here, was rushed to the Government Medical College hospital but could not be saved.
The accused did not stop when Ajesh signalled him to do so and hit the officer while trying to speed away.
