Lashing out at the BJP-led NDA government for its failure to tackle the volatile situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress today said the Centre's "political immaturity" has pushed the state from an era of development into one of "uncertainty and insecurity".
"There is total snap of communication between the people and the state authorities. Both the ruling coalition partners in J&K are, today, totally cut off from the people and the public living in whole Kashmir valley is being treated like people of some enemy country," former minister and J&K Congress general secretary Majid Wani said here.
"The BJP government at the Centre has totally failed to tackle the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The political immaturity has pushed Jammu and Kashmir from an era of development to era of uncertainty and insecurity," he added.
He claimed that the situation in J&K, during last three years, has totally changed from an era of development, peace and tranquillity, witnessed by the people from 2002 till 2014, when the "landmark people-friendly" initiatives taken by leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad had put the state back on path of development, prosperity, reconciliation and trust.
Wani said the present regime at the Centre is "experimenting" with the Kashmir Valley and its people.
"There is silent unrest and sense of insecurity simmering even among public in most areas in Jammu province due to nonperformance and mis-governance of the administration," he claimed.
He said poor people have to run from pillar to post to get services like state subjects, ration, old age and widows' pension, Aadhaar cards, and revenue papers.
"The ties with the neighbouring country have seen a lowest ebb and people living in border areas have been left on their own to be victims of increased border shelling," he added.
Apart from loss of lives and injuries to border residents, they have been subjected to huge losses of cattle, agricultural crops and their houses due to the continuous border shelling by Pakistan, he said.
Wani appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to adopt a people-friendly and soft approach in J&K and to take immediate measures for reconciliation and restoration of people's trust in the administration.
"The political maturity, if shown in this regard, shall definitely bring positive results and bring about the restoration of people's trust and confidence back in the democratic set-up of India and get people of the state out of the slumber of unrest and civil war-like situation," he said.
