The complaint received from DMK has been registered at the Salem Town Police station and a Community Service Register (CSR) number issued by the police, Returning Officer for the Salem North constituency, C Vijaybabu told reporters here.
Secretary of the Salem Central district unit of DMK R Rajendran had on March 23 preferred the complaint with the Salem District Collector V Sampath, who is also the District Election Officer.
He had alleged that the minister abused Karunanidhi and party Treasurer M K Stalin during the public meeting held in Suramangalam area.
Police said further action would be taken after obtaining legal opinion.
Meanwhile, electronic voting machines meant for the May 16 Assembly elections were inspected by political parties' representatives in the presence of Sampath.
