"The polling has been peaceful so far," Deputy Commissioner Kargil Fida Hussain, who is also the Election Authority said.
Elections are being held for 24 seats of LAHDC as two candidates were elected unopposed. As many as 84 candidates are in the fray.
Nearly 79,000 voters of Kargil district are eligible to exercise their franchise to elect representatives to the LAHDC Kargil which was formed in 2003 on the pattern of LAHDC Leh.
The authorities have set up 257 polling stations.
As many as four election observers, 26 returning officers, 26 Assistant Returning Officers, three Zonal Magistrates and 26 Sectoral Magistrates had been put on election duty, Hussain said.
