Pondy govt earmarks special funds for welfare of scs

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today said the territorial government had earmarked funds under 'special component plan' for promotion of welfare of the scheduled castes in the Union Territory.
The chief minister said whatever be the obstacles, the government will not refrain from implementing the schemes for educational and employment opportunities of the downtrodden and other sections.
He was addressing the Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations after unveiling a statue of the leader on the premises of the Ambedkar Manimandapam here.
Narayanasamy also released a book on Ambedkar written by former MP M Ramadoss on the occasion.
Welfare Minister M Kandasamy, who presided, said the government proposed to construct a 'mani mandapam', a multi-disciplinary centre promoting literary and cultural activities in memory of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Speaker V Vaithilingam said "the Constitution of India prepared by Dr Ambedkar is a gift for successful and vibrant functioning of democracy in the country."

The constitution had demarcated powers for the executive, judiciary and legislature, he said.
"One wing of the three pillars cannot encroach upon the powers and authorities of the other two and those in one wing aspiring to trespass into the authority of the other will only be labouring under mistake," he said.
Chief Secretary Manoj Parida said Puducherry government would render justice to all sections without fear or favour. "We will continue to do our work under the leadership of Chief Minister," he added.

Earlier, the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, the chief minister along with his ministerial colleagues, paid glowing tributes to Ambedkar.
