Pondy to present plan to select it under 'Smart City scheme'

Puducherry government has initiated steps to prepare a detailed letter to focus the "eligible parameters that Puducherry possess for being identified as smart city," Welfare and Tourism Minister P.Rajavelu today said.
The Town and Country Planning Department has been asked to prepare a detailed plan on the features of Puducherry that satisfy the norms of 'smart city' scheme. "This would along with a detailed letter be presented to the Centre and also to the French Embassy', the Minister, who is in Delhi, told PTI.
An official delegation would also be taken to meet the Union Tourism Minister to make out a case for Puducherry for being included as one of the smart cities with the initiative of French government,Rajavelu said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a nine-day tour of France, Germany and Canada today with focus on inviting investments, particularly in infrastructure and defence sectors, besides cooperation in nuclear and a variety of other areas.
