Facing penury, a 50-year-old mason has allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a river in Bithur district, police said today.
Suhagi Lal, father of six, took the extreme step yesterday, they said.
Last evening, he went to a bridge on the Pandu river from where he jumped. The passerby's informed about the incident to the local police, after which they started searching for the body, but due to heavy flow of the river, they could not trace it, police said.
After the matter was reported, the administration promised to give all kind of financial assistance to the family of the deceased.
