With an aim to offer better service to consumers in Bihar, power holding companies in the state have decided to extend their working day by a day.
The employees will now work from Monday to Saturday with immediate effect instead of the earlier five-day week, a BSEB release said.
The lunch hour has also been cut short to half-an-hour now from 1:30 pm to 2 pm, Hare Ram Pandey, Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) said in the release.
This decision has been taken with an aim to provide better service to consumers through quick disposal of work, the DGM said.
There are nearly 13,000 employees in the five power holding companies.
Casual leave for the year has been increased to 15 days from 12 days earlier, he said.
Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) was recently unbundled into five companies.
The power companies decision to expand working day and cut short lunch hour is in tune with the state government's resolve to improve electricity situation in Bihar.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced that he would not seek vote in 2015 Assembly elections if he fails to add power supply to energy-starved Bihar.
