Powerful bomb recovered bus in Guwahati

A powerful improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered from a bus in Guwahati today and one person was arrested in this connection, a senior police officer said.
On receiving information about IED, the police found it during checking at Jalukbari area from a bus coming from Tezpur in Sonitpur district towards Guwahati, City Senior Superintendent of Police A P Tiwari told PTI.
The highly explosive IED weighing about one kg was wrapped with carbon paper and kept in a bag in the bus, Tiwari said.
Bomb experts defused it in a nearby open field.
One person suspected to have boarded the bus with the IED at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district was apprehended, the SSP said.

It was not immediately known which militant outfit was involved in it or for what purpose the IED was brought to Guwahati, Tiwari said.
