President Pranab Mukherjee visited the Manakula Vinaykar Temple, one of the oldest and famous temples here, and offered prayers.
Mukherjee, while returning to New Delhi after winding up his four-day official visit to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, made a brief halt at the temple en route to the airport, where priests performed special pooja for the visiting dignitary.
The President spent about 15 minutes at the temple.
Mukherjee had participated in the Indian Cinema Centenary Valedictory in Chennai on September 24.
