"The National Voters' Day is celebrated by Election Commission of India every year as a measure to enhance participation of citizens, especially the youth, in the democratic electoral process.
"The Commission's objective is to make Universal Adult Franchise a complete reality and thereby enhance the quality of Indian democracy. As such, January 25, 2011 was celebrated as the first National Voters' Day," a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
