President Ram Nath Kovind today expressed confidence that MPs and legislators would carry forward the public related work through debate and dialogue in the upcoming Monsoon sessions of Parliament and state Assemblies.

"Monsoon sessions of Parliament and State Assemblies are going to commence soon. I am confident that in these sessions, all MPs and legislators will take decisions through debate and dialogue while giving priority to the public interest and carry forward their work for the public," Kovind said.

He was addressing the gathering at 'Shiromani Kabir Prakash Diwas' event at Fatehabad, over 200 kms from Chandigarh.

The President lauded both the executive and the legislature for actively bridging the gap of social inequalities in the society by implementing schemes for the welfare of the poor and weaker sections of the society.

He also paid tributes to Sant Kabir Das, the mystic poet and saint, and described him as a great social reformer.

Kovind said Sant Kabir had shown the path of equality and harmony and his teachings could not be confined to any particular religion, creed, caste, region or language.

His teachings are as relevant today as during his time, Kovind said.

He said Mahatma Gandhi had the same spirit and Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Deen Dayal Upadhyay and Ram Manohar Lohia also the same ideology.

Ambedkar, the architect of Constitution, was influenced by the philosophy of Sant Kabir, he said adding "therefore, our constitution is based on principles of justice, freedom and brotherhood".

While lauding the welfare schemes being implemented by the Haryana government, he appreciated the decision of the state government to celebrate birth anniversary of Sant Kabir in every district.

Kovind said that 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, which was launched from Panipat on January 22, 2015, led to considerable improvement in the sex ratio of the state. The state deserves appreciation, he added.

Haryana Governor, Kaptan Singh Solanki was also present on the occasion.
