Prez, PM wish LS Speaker on birthday

President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on her birthday and wished her good health.
Extending warm greetings, President Mukherjee said, "May you be blessed with good health and happiness".
In his message, Prime Minister Modi said, "My best wishes to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Sumitra Mahajan ji on her birthday. I pray for her long life and good health."
Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambi Durai, Union Ministers, Members of Parliament and other dignitaries and officers and staff of Lok Sabha Secretariat also greeted the Speaker.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, while conveying greetings to her, wished her good health and many more years of service of the nation.
Mahajan thanked all dignitaries and other well-wishers and hoped that the greetings would motivate her to serve the nation better.
Mahajan, who turned 72 years old today, is an eight-time Lok Sabha MP. After being elected to the 9th Lok Sabha (the House of People) for the first time in 1989, she has never lost an election and has been a member of all Lok Sabhas since then.
Born on April 12, 1943 in Chiplun in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, Mahajan started her political career in 1982 when she was elected as a Corporator of Municipal Corporation, Indore.
