The Empowered Apex Steering Committee had recently decided that Princess Park Complex would be the suitable site for the museum. The Union Cabinet was apprised of the decision of the committee, an official statement said.
The Union Cabinet had on October 7 last approved the construction of the National War Memorial at 'C' Hexagon of India Gate, acceding to a long-pending demand of the armed forces.
The total time for completion of the Rs 500-crore project to build a memorial and an accompanying museum is estimated to be five years.
"The memorial will promote a sense of patriotism in the minds of visitors, and will award an opportunity to citizens of this vast nation, to express their token sense of gratitude to the brave soldiers, who laid down their lives for the motherland," a statement issued after the October, 2015 decision of the Cabinet had said.
