A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, here.
Necessary changes in jail rules will be incorporated to enable prisoners to donate their organs, a government release said.
They would be provided necessary specialised treatment, medicines and food and it would be the government's responsibilty to take care of them, the chief minister said.
Efforts would also be made to improve hospital facilities in the prisons.
Chief Secretary Nalini Netto, Law Secretary B G Harindranath and Jail ADGP R Sreelekha were among those who took part in the meeting.
