Probe ordered into Class X student beating case

An inquiry has been ordered following allegations that a class tenth student of a government school was thrashed by two cops in Midjil town of Mahabubnagar district in Telangana, police said today.
Hyderabad-based 'Balala Hakkula Sangham', an NGO working for child rights complained to police that a sub-inspector and assistant SI beat up the boy, who is studying at Zilla Parishad High School on Saturday last at the behest of some teachers, resulting in bruises over his body.
The NGO said the boy had clicked photos of a Maths teacher sleeping in the class during school hours on July 27 and the same were sent through a messaging application to the District Education Officer after which the teacher K Ramulu was placed under suspension.

According to the NGO, it was due to this reason at the behest of some teachers the two policemen beat up the student.
"This act of child abuse by the SI and ASI is severe violation of child rights," honorary president of the NGO, Achyuta Rao said and demanded suspension of the two policemen.
Mahabubnagar Superintendent of Police R Rema Rajeswari, who ordered an inquiry into the incident, however, said based on preliminary investigation it has been found that the student did not attend his classes regularly.
"The boy was caught by some villagers and school officials allegedly drinking on the school premises and they informed the police. We are verifying into the allegations that the boy was beaten up," she said, adding, the boy has given them in writing that he was not beaten up by the police.

"However, following the allegations, I have ordered an inquiry by a senior officer. Once the report is submitted and if the cops are found to be responsible definitely departmental action will be initiated against them," the SP told PTI over phone.
