Congress president Sonia Gandhi today assured people in her constituency that the problems being faced by farmers in selling their paddy crops to the government will be raised in the ongoing session of Parliament.
"The problems in paddy purchase (by the government) will be raised in Parliament," the local MP told people when they raised the issue in Suhaibagh area on the second day of her two-day visit.
Gandhi was apprised about the issue while she was interacting with locals after laying the foundation stone of some road projects.
"There are immense problems in paddy purchase. We are forced to sell it at Rs 1,100, which is also not easy," a local, Laxmikant Misra of Kandaura village, told Sonia Gandhi.
She assured people that the matter will be raised in Parliament.
Earlier, the Congress president met party workers and locals at a guest house in the morning.
In a meeting with members of the district Congress Committee last night, Gandhi had asked them to go among people and tell them about party's contribution in the past 60 years.
"Late prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Congress have worked together for realising the dream of modern India, but today the youth is being misled into believing that Congress did nothing in the past 60 years," she was quoted as saying by a leader who was present in the meeting.
Before leaving for Delhi, the Congress president went to the house of party MLC Dinesh Singh whose mother expired recently.
She also visited the house of a party member Lallan Awasthi who passed away recently.
