Apparently embarrassed at grave charges of corruption and misconduct against four IPS officers, including the suspended former Saran range DIG Alok Kumar, the Bihar government revealed that it has started proceedings against the 'tainted' cops.
Replying to a starred question by the BJP MLA Vinod Narayan Jha, Parliamentary affairs Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said that proceedings have been initiated against Kumar and the three SPs - Shivdeep Lande, Ansuia Ran Singh and Babu Ram.
He said that as far as status of proceedings against the suspended DIG was concerned, the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) has lodged a case against the latter for allegedly demanding Rs. 10 crore extortion from a liquor trader in Siwan district last month and a chargesheet will be framed against him soon.
In Lande's case, the DIG Purnia was investigating an allegation of extortion from a businessman, while departmental proceedings have been initiated against the former Sheikhpura SP Anasuia Ransingh, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said.
Similarly, a high-level probe was held against another former Sheikhpura SP Babu Ram in a case of inhuman atrocities on a liquor trader and departmental proceedings against him was under consideration by the police department. The state government will carry out investigation against all four IPS officers as per rule, he said.
On another question seeking information about parent cadre of the 'tainted' DIG, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said that Kumar belongs to Jammu and Kashmir cadre and he was brought on deputation for five years from 2010 following mutual agreement between the two states.
