Protests over acquittal of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 Sikh carnage case continued for the second day today as activists of over half dozen Sikh bodies stopped two trains for over an hour at the railway station here this evening.
Protesters squatted over rail tracks, stopping the Delhi-bound Amritsar-New Delhi Shan-e-Punjab and Amritsar-bound Saharsa-Amritsar (Jan Seva) Express, railway sources said.
Protesters also raised slogans against Congress-led UPA government, especially against Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler, "discriminatory justice system" and government's move to hang Devinderpal Singh Bhullar.
Both trains were allowed to leave the station, a little after 6 pm.
Station Superintendent Bhushan Nandwani said, while Shan-e-Punjab Express left 1 hour 25 minutes behind schedule, Saharsa-Amritsar Express was delayed by 1 hour 20 minutes.
Protesters, who earlier assembled in Prem Nagar Gurdwara on Khera Road and then marched towards the railway station, also burnt effigies of Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler.
