Rights group People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) today asked West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairperson Justice (retd) A K Ganguly to step down from his post after being indicted by an apex court panel for "unwelcome behaviour" and "conduct of sexual nature" towards a law intern.
It said WBHRC chairperson should "gracefully tender his resignation" from his post to uphold the dignity of the high office and also to uphold the rule of law.
"The PUCL urges Justice Ganguly to gracefully tender his resignation from the post of the Chairperson of West Bengal Human Rights Commission to uphold that dignity of the high office that he holds and uphold the rule of law," PUCL President Prabhakar Sinha said in a statement.
After a committee of three Supreme Court judges held Ganguly guilty of an act of "unwelcome behaviour" with an intern, there has been demand from several quarters for his resignation.
