The Puducherry government has urged the Centre to hike fund allocation for implementing health programmes under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scheme in the Union Territory.
After making a surprise visit to the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Research Institute today Chief Minsiter V Narayanasamy told reporters that the hike in funds was necessary to expand activities of the health department under the NRHM here.
Narayanasamy said the government hospital was catering to the health care needs of the patients of Puducherry and those hailing from neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
He further said the government had planned to set up a super speciality hospital in Karaikal.
The CM was accompanied by Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao and the Director of Health and Family Welfare Services during his visit the hospital.
