Slamming the SAD-BJP government for its inability to pay the Dearness Allowance and arrears of its employees, Congress today demanded an emergency session of the Assembly to discuss the "dismal" fiscal position of the state.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa alleged that the SAD-BJP government had failed to pay instalments of DA to its employees since January of this year and had also delayed paying 30 per cent of pay arrears.
Addressing a meeting of party workers here, Bajwa also demanded an emergency session of the Assembly to discuss the issue.
"Punjab government is not in a position to pay salaries of its employees who may be forced to observe a 'Black Diwali' this year," he said.
"The mismanagement of resources, rampant corruption, over spending and non-productive expenditure, heavy top brass of police and bureaucracy, ineffective revenue collection and tax evasion are some of the reasons behind the poor economic performance of this government," he alleged.
Bajwa said that the Punjab finance minister had accepted that the state's economy was in a shambles and its government had no funds to meet day-to-day expenses.
He asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to shut down loss-making boards and corporations and remove all Chief Parliamentary Secretaries in light of the "financial crisis".
