Punjab govt steps up work for tube wells in Kandi region

Punjab government today said installation work of 280 tube wells in the sub mountainous areas of Kandi has been put on fast track.
The project entailing financial outlay of Rs 130.06 crore would rejuvenate the whole irrigation network of this backward area by providing better irrigation facilities to the farmers, Irrigation Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said in a statement here.
The state government has already approved 45 tube well connections whereas 183 tube wells have been drilled and 171 have been repaired till May 31.
The minister said the Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation was providing enhanced irrigation facilities in various parts of the state and expediting the work for more than 1500 tube wells out of which 650 were installed in Kandi and 850 in other areas.

Dhillon said that tubewells were irrigating 1.90 lakh acres of land at Rs 1 per unit cost in the Kandi area and Rs 1.60 in terms of electricity consumption.
