Punjab Minister Anil Joshi today warned corrupt officials of strict action if they did not stop from demanding ten per cent commission from industrialists for refunding VAT.
"I am making a list of such officials and will submit it to Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal. I have taken notice of this commission culture. I won't allow corrupt officers to catch hold of the collars of hard-working industrialists who give huge revenue to the state," the Industry and Commerce Minister said at a meeting of industrialists here.
Joshi noted that these corrupt officers were well connected and influential. "But I will keep up my fight against them in the interest of public," he said.
Earlier, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Local Bodies, Som Parkash bluntly told officers that they were servants of public and not its masters.
"Garima (prestige) of government orders must be followed in right earnestness by the officers," Parkash said at the meeting.
