Punjab Industry and Commerce Minister Anil Joshi has appealed to Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma for declaring border areas of Punjab a special tax free zone.
"Decade-long violence in Punjab has left the economy of border areas in shambles, affecting the industry and trade to a great extent. The special package is imperative to restore the confidence of people," he said in a statement here.
He said the special package and incentives will restore the confidence of the industrialists who had deserted Punjab during the militancy.
"Six districts of Punjab share border with Pakistan. Though Punjab had provided all the facilities and infrastructure to industries there, special incentives from the Centre would give them much-needed impetus."
