In a big relief to the trading community this new year, Punjab government has decided to make C-Forms available online from January 15.
The state excise and taxation department has completed all the necessary preparations and traders would not have to make rounds of government offices to get these forms.
The drive to make the C-Forms available online would commence from SAS Nagar on January 15 and the traders can download it from that date, an official spokesman said here today.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who also holds the excise and taxation portfolio, had instructed the department to make C-Forms online from January during a meeting of the cabinet sub-committee on tax reforms held recently.
Filling C-Forms is mandatory for traders and they were sometimes facing difficulties due to non-availability of forms.
Excise and Taxation Commissioner Anurag Verma said the trials conducted by the department in this regard have yielded positive results.
He added that traders from SAS Nagar can download C-Forms online by logging in from their own accounts after January 15, adding that the highest number of these forms are submitted in Ludhiana, with SAS Nagar coming second.
The spokesman said the forms would be available for download in Ludhiana district from March, and the rest of the state by April.
He added that the online availability of this form would benefit around 2.50 lakh traders of the state.
