BJP MLA Raj Purohit met Maharashtra BJP president Raosaheb Danve here today after the party issued him show cause notice over a sting operation video which showed the MLA from Colaba criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
"I met Danve at the party office here this afternoon. I told him that I was out of time and have not seen the notice. I sought 15 days time to probe the alleged video sting CD. I want to seek information and authenticity about the CD," Purohit told PTI.
Asked if he would take legal action against television news channels which aired the sting video, Purohit said that he hasn't yet taken a decision on it.
On June 27, Purohit was asked by the BJP to explain his position and give a written explanation within three days.
The BJP notice said that Purohit's action violated party discipline and asked him to submit a written reply to Danve within three days, failing which disciplinary action would be taken against him.
The video clip, which was aired by some news channels and also uploaded onto some websites, has left the BJP red-faced.
In the video, Purohit was seen agreeing with an interviewer, whose identity is unknown, that Modi and Shah are the only ones who wield power in the BJP.
He alleged in the video that there is no democracy in the BJP.
"People talk of collective leadership, but it is simply absent. This is a dangerous sign for the party," Purohit is heard in the video clip.
In the clip, Purohit was also heard calling Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis "helpless" due to "pressure from above" as well as influential individuals like real estate developer and Malabar Hill MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha, besides also ridiculing Raj Thackeray as a "bogus" leader.
