Five armed men, who were sitting in the office of a PWD Executive Engineer, yesterday allegedly opened fire on him after he raised an objection when one of them started smoking in front of him.
The miscreants, three of whom have been identified as contractors connected with the PWD department.
The engineer managed to somehow escape and raise an alarm but the miscreants, however, had fled by then.
The PWD workers' Union have threatened to intensify their stir if the culprits are not arrested by tomorrow.
They have alleged that political pressure has been mounted to prevent action against the alleged culprits.
District Magistrate Balkar Singh said that the district authorities would take action as per law and there was no pressure on the police.
