Rabi sowing: Wheat, pulses acreage up 8%

Sowing area under wheat and pulses has risen by around 8 per cent to 127.15 lakh hectares and 95.09 lakh hectares so far in the current Rabi (winter-sown) season on good monsoon and higher support price.
However, the acreage of paddy and coarse cereals is lower than the last year.
"As per preliminary reports received from the States, the total area sown under Rabi crops as on November 25th, 2016 stands at 327.62 lakh hectares as compared to 313.17 lakh hectare this time in 2015," an official statement said.
Wheat has been sown/transplanted in 127.15 lakh hectares so far this rabi season from 117.32 lakh hectares in the same period last year.

Pulses acreage has grown to 95.09 lakh hectares from 88.12 lakh hectares, oilseeds sowing area has risen to 64.21 lakh hectares from 56.26 lakh hectares.
However, paddy acreage has fallen to 6.82 lakh hectares so far this rabi season from 9.10 lakh hectares in the same period last year. Coarse cereals sowing area, too, dropped to 34.35 lakh hectares from 42.37 lakh hectares.
