Railways earnings up by over 10 per cent

Railways have earned Rs 49,026.31 crore during April-July this year as against Rs 44,264.23 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.76 per cent.
The total earnings from goods during the four months this year were Rs 33,040.22 crore compared to Rs 30,516.04 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 8.27 per cent.
In passenger service, Railways have earned Rs 13,748.05 crore during April-July period compared to Rs 11,631.27 crore from passenger service during the same period last year, registering an increase of 18.20 per cent.
The earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 1328.50 crore during April-July period as compared to Rs 1267.21 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 4.84 per cent.
The total number of passengers booked during April-July 2014 were 2898.02 million compared to 2811.20 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 3.09 per cent.
