Railways offers environment-friendly works under CSR

Railways has offered projects related to environment sustainability, sanitation and cleanliness, rain water harvesting, water recycling plants and solar panels among others under the corporate social responsibility (CSR), Lok Sabha was told today.
To encourage participation of private companies and PSUs in identified activities to be done under CSR in Railways, the policy framework was put in place by Railways in February, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said in a written reply.
The policy guidelines detail out the works executable under CSR also include construction of toilets, provision for solid waste management and supply of filtered drinking water.

As the activities under CSR are typically implemented by the companies or its agency as per their CSR policy, no estimation of CSR funding is available with the Railways.
Railways has been executing required works with gross budgetary support from General Exchequer, internal resources, IRFC borrowing, Institutional financing and through other modes of financing as per requirement and feasibility.
