A passenger's complaint regarding uncleanliness on board a train has led a consumer forum here to direct Indian Railways to pay him Rs 5,000 as compensation.
The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum held Railways guilty of deficiency in service saying, "These facts require no special evidence and judicial notice of the same can be taken by us. The facts speak for themselves...
"In the absence of any reply at the first position (initial stage), we accept the alleged deficiency on the part of opposite party (Railway Board) and direct it to pay compensation of Rs 5,000 to the complainant for harassment," a bench headed by CK Chaturvedi said.
The order came on the complaint of one HP Agrawal, who was allegedly faced with dirty compartments, toilets, pillow covers, bed rolls, etc. When he and his wife had travelled in a 2nd AC coach of Tamil Nadu Express, on January 29, 2013.
The counsel for Railways had refuted the allegations made by Agrawal.
