Rain drenches Punjab, Haryana; minimum temperature rises

Widespread rainfall drenched most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today even as the minimum temperature rose by up to six notches above normal in the region.
Most parts of Punjab and Haryana received rainfall, the MeT said, adding that cloudy conditions due to western disturbances will lead to an increase in minimum temperature in the region.
The mercury hovered between two to six degrees Celsius above normal in most parts of Punjab and Haryana, the MeT office said.
Chandigarh and Ambala had intermittent scant rainfall while Amritsar received 15.9 mm of rains.
Mukerian received 7.6 mm of rains followed by 7.2 mm at Karnal, 2.7 mm at Hisar, two mm at Ludhiana, 1.6 mm at Bhiwani and 0.9 mm at Patiala.
In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Ludhiana was the coldest place with a low of 9.4 degrees Celsius which was two notches above normal.
While Chandigarh and Patiala settled at an identical low of ten degrees Celsius, four notches each above normal, Karnal had a low of 10.1 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.
Among other places, Amritsar had a low of 10.5 degrees Celsius, six notches above normal, followed by 10.7 degrees Celsius at Ambala, four notches above normal, 11.5 degrees Celsius at Narnaul, six notches above normal, and 12 degrees Celsius at Hisar, which was six notches above normal.
