Already battered by heavy rains in the past couple of days, Odisha is unlikely to get any respite soon as heavy to very heavy rainfall coupled with gusty wind has been forecast in some places till tomorrow.
Rain and thundershower will occur in most places of the state due to a well marked low pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha and Bengal coasts, the meteorological centre said here said today.
Under its impact, heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur in one or two places in northern Odisha and heavy rainfall in one or two places in southern parts of the state during the next 24 hours, it said.
Gusty surface wind with speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph will prevail along and off Odisha Coast, the MeT office said, advising fishermen not to venture into the sea.
Many parts of the state including the state capital of Bhubaneswar have been pounded by heavy rains for the past couple of days affecting normal life amidst submergence of low-lying areas.
Vehicular movement in several areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack was badly hit due to incessant rain with water inundating roads.
Rainfall in Bhubaneswar was today recorded at 52.16 mm, while it was 51.7 mm in the port town of Gopalpur and 40 mm in Cuttack, MeT office said.
