Rains in Punjab, Haryana add to winter chill

Light rains today lashed most of the places in Punjab and Haryana, intensifying the cold wave conditions in both the states.
UT Chandigarh was the coldest place in the region as it recorded minimum at 5.8 deg C, while the city received rainfall of 1.7 mm, a MeT Department report said today.
Amid piercing cold wave conditions prevailing in the region, Amritsar recorded minimum at 7.7 deg C, up by four notches above normal. The city received rainfall of 10 mm.
Ludhiana and Patiala, whose minimum were 10 deg C and 10.4 deg C respectively, were lashed by 2.8 mm and 0.8 mm of rains.
In neighbouring state Haryana, Hisar, Karnal and Narnaul recorded minimum at 11 deg C, 10.6 deg C and 9 deg C, respectively, four notches above normal each.
Ambala, whose minimum was 10.4 deg C, Hisar and Karnal recorded rainfall at 1.9 mm, 3.2 mm and 1.2 mm respectively. Bhiwani's minimum settled at 10 deg C with rainfall of 2 mm.
A few trains were running late because of poor visibility at some places in the region.
Shatabdi train between Delhi and Kalka via Chandigarh was running behind schedule by over two hours, while super fast train between Sainagar Shirdi and Kalka was running behind schedule by over five hours.
Two flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Chandigarh were also behind schedule by about an hour.
