Rains trigger lanslides, affect chardham yatra in Uttarakhand

Heavy rains triggered landslides at various places in Uttarakhand, blocking traffic on roads to Himalayan shrines and major highways.
Heavy showers lashed several places in the state in the last 24 hours with Nainital recording 108 MM of rainfall, followed by Dharchula 79 mm, Munsyari 75 mm, Banbasa 45 mm and Rishikesh 34 mm, according to information received from the emergency operation centre.
Incessant rains triggered landslides which blocked the roads to Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The highway to Kedarnath is open only upto Sonprayag.
Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway is blocked at Lambagad, Patalganga, Pagalnala whereas Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway is blocked at Netala, Laldhang and Gangnani.
The Rishikesh-Yamunotri Highway is blocked at Silaiband.
Both BRO and PWD are busy clearing the roads.
