He had last night received a tumultuous welcome when he arrived here from Bagdogra airport in a motorcade.
Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) chief executive Bimal Gurung has requested Ramdev to establish a unit of the Patanjali Yogpeeth in Darjeeling, to which he agreed.
"I have been asked to set up a yogpeeth in Darjeeling. The Himalaya and the Northeast region are a treasure of trove of several medicinal and herbal plants. You will get a unit of the Patanjali Yogapeeth very soon," said Ramdev.
With his disciple Balkrishna Acharya and Gurung on his side, Ramdev said to a question on the Gorkhaland demand that "it is a political issue".
He, however, said he respected the sentiments of the people.
Gurung said it was his long-cherished dream to bring the yoga master to the hills.
The yoga guru during his stay will inaugurate a steel bridge at JogiGhat in Mungpoo, 28 km from Darjeeling. The bridge will connect Mungpoo with Latpanchar.
