The hospital authorities, however, did not divulge any further details.
Ramgopal, who was the national general secretary of the SP, was yesterday expelled from the party for six years by Mulayam Singh Yadav, accusing him of "hobnobbing with the BJP".
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had recently sacked his uncle and SP state unit chief Shivpal Yadav, along with three other "pro-Amar Singh" ministers, from his cabinet.
Akhilesh's father and SP supremo Mulayam, in a tit-for-tat action, had then expelled his "pro-CM" cousin and SP's national general secretary Ramgopal.
