The 27-year-old hip hop star, whose real name is Niatia Jessica Kirkland was pulled over about at 4:04 AM, reported E! online.
According to the authorities, she was driving a 2015 Infiniti 38 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone near Fifth Avenue and W 135th Street. Officers pulled her over, and found that her license was suspended for failing to pay a February 2013 speeding ticket, police said.
The rapper later released a statement apologizing for her mistake.
"I would like to apologize to my family, friends and fans for my actions last night. I made a mistake and it was totally irresponsible of me to drive without a valid drivers license. My actions do not in any way reflect who I am as a person.
Lil Mama said she has worked hard for her career and would like to continue to be a role model for young women and men.
"I accept full responsibility for my actions and will take the necessary measures to have this quickly resolved and corrected," the statement further read.
Lil Mama is best known for her 2008 hit song "Lip Gloss" and for portraying Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes in the TLC biopic, "CrazySexyCool.
