Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore today underlined the importance of social media in popularising photography and encouraged photographers to use right perspective in their photos to create historic photographs for the coming generation.
He was speaking at a one-day national workshop on photography and videography, organised by his ministry's photo division to hone the skills of government personnel associated with both the fields.
"It is our duty towards the coming generation to click photographs with right perspective so that they become a part of the history as people are sometimes more interested in seeing the photographs rather than reading about the subject," said the minister.
"Nowadays, every one has a camera but the skill to click a memorable photo is rare," he said.
The Minister of State emphasised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to upgrade skills through appropriate training methods and tools. "He (Modi) always says we should increase our capabilities and get trained to become experts in our fields rather than blaming the system because we too are part of it."
With technology changing the science of photography, the minister said that the time of autograph has gone and now is the age of photograph.
Speaking on contemporary trends of photo-shopping and digital photography, eminent wildlife photographer Rajesh Bedi expressed dissatisfaction with the current photographers' job.
"These days most of the photographers don't spend much time in the field trying to improve their shots rather sit on computers to enhance their photos by either adding to removing things. They have to be faithful to their work," Bedi said.
Filmmaker Santosh Sivan also addressed the workshop.
