States have been asked to display at ration shops all information related to Public Distribution System (PDS), including the subsidy borne by the Centre, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said.
"States have been directed to display information regarding PDS on the notice board of all the FPSs (fair price shops) for information of public," Paswan tweeted.
"States have been directed to display on FPS notice board showing share of subsidy by government of India and state concerned on PDS foodgrains," he said in another tweet.
Paswan said the economic cost of wheat procurement is Rs 24.09 per kg, while it supplies grains at Rs 2 per kg under the National Food Security Act. The Centre bears a subsidy of Rs 22.09 per kg.
In case of rice, the government bears a cost of Rs 32.64 per kg for procurement and provides it to states at Rs 3 per kg for distribution through ration shops. So, the Central subsidy is Rs 29.64 per kg.
The National Food Security Act (NFSA), which has been rolled out across the country, provides legal entitlement of 5 kg of foodgrains per person per month at Rs 1-3 per kg. The Centre provides Rs 1.4 lakh crore annually to implement the food law.
