RCF achieves highest ever coach production in 2013-14

Kapurthala based Rail Coach Factory (RCF) manufactured 1,701 coaches last fiscal, the highest ever in its history, a senior official said here today.
RCF produced 1,680 coaches in 2012-13.
Stating this, RCF General Manager Parmod Kumar said RCF produced 23 variants of coaches for high end trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, the Double Decker and other mail and express trains.
"Besides its own production, 150 unfurnished coaches were also manufactured at RCF Rae Bareli, a new production unit of Indian Railways where activity has just commenced," he said.
RCF, the coach manufacturing unit of Indian Railways, in association with Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE) equipped 2,096 coaches with bio toilets, a low cost solution to the problem of defecation on the rail tracks.
In order to bring world class railway technology to the common man, LHB design stainless steel coaches are now being used in Non-AC mail and express trains also, he said adding that 121 such coaches had been produced during the last fiscal.
