Supermodel Christie Brinkley has slammed a media report, which suggested that the reason behind her break-up with musician John Mellencamp was political.
The tabloid story apparently said that Brinkley was a Hillary Clinton supporter and her former beau sided Donald Trump and hence they split.
The 62-year-old actress called it unfair for people to say that they parted ways due to difference in their political opinions.
"While much has been written over the years about me that I simply allow to roll off my back... I do stand up for my friends when things seem unfair and this is the case here," Brinkley wrote on her Instagram page.
"The Hamptons" star, who started dating Mellencamp last September, explained that their busy schedule was the only reason their relationship did not work out.
"On the heels of a mutual statement made due to pressure from media outlets regarding the status of our relationship, John Mellencamp and I which clearly explained, that "distance and work" were all that stood in the way of our relationship.."
"We both believe that we stand a better chance of overcoming the problems America faces when Americans of every race religion ethnicity , gender, black lives ,blue lives, come together in mutual respect and love and that's why we are both voting for Hillary," the model said.
