REC inks pact to provide aids, devices to 'divyangjan'

State-run Rural Electrification Corp (REC) today inked a pact with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) for distribution of aids and assistive devices to 8,000 divyangjan (differently abled persons).
REC Foundation, the CSR arm of the REC, committed financial assistance to ALIMCO for distribution of aids and assistive devices to more than 8,000 persons with special abilities in various states of India, an REC statement said.
The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was inked between REC Foundation and ALIMCO in New Delhi today.
Sanjiv Garg, CEO, REC Foundation and D R Sarin, CMD, ALIMCO signed the MoA in the presence of other senior officials of REC and ALIMCO.
According to a separate statement of the ALIMCO, the REC will provide an aid of Rs 10 crore for distribution of aids and assistive devices to approximately 8,000 to 9,000 'divyangjan' at 25 various locations in India.
ALIMCO is a "Not ForProfit" central public sector undertaking working under the administrative control of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and has been manufacturing various types of aids and appliances on mass scale to meet the requirements of the 'divyangjan'.
The main objective of the project is distribution of aids and assistive devices to the persons with disabilities (PWDs), aimed at empowering this section of society to restore their confidence and bring them up to a reasonable level.
