"NDMA is not active. It has not been reconstituted. Keeping the NDMA dormant is not good for the country. I urge the Prime Minister to reconstitute it immediately so that it can effectively help disaster hit people," he told PTI here.
Reddy and all other members of NDMA, appointed by the previous UPA regime, had resigned in June after the NDA government assumed the charge.
The Congress leader from Telangana said NDMA not only works for the rescue and relief of disaster affected people but creates awareness about disaster, how to prevent major casualties and proper rehabilitation of disaster hit people.
Reddy said he had heard that the size of the NDMA would be reduced and its functions would be made nominal, which should not happen.
"NDMA should not be diluted. It should be made strong," he said.
