Altogether 12.8 lakh people have been targetted for training in Assam under the ambit of skilling needs of disadvantaged groups, National Skill Development Agency Director General J P Rai said.
"To ensure the skilling needs of the disadvantaged and the marginalised groups, the government has fixed a target to train 12.8 lakh persons of the state during the 12th Plan period", said Rai conducting the Regional Level Workshop on Skill Development for the North Eastern States here today.
The targetted group would include 2.5 lakh persons during the year 2014-15, he added.
The Regional Workshop was organised for the first time in the region by the NSDA in association with the Assam Department of Labour and Employment to give a thrust to tackle the unemployment problem of the area by creating skilled manpower.
The aim of the workshop was to provide them proper trained guidance and imbibe in them work culture.
Assam Labour and Employment Department Secretary Amlan Baruah said a State Skill Development Mission will begin functioning in the State very shortly.
Delegations from the eight North Eastern states, officials from central ministries along with OIL, ONGC, CIPET and other training providers, including the British Council, attended the Workshop with their presentation on Skill Development.
